I wanted to like this new Thai food location like the original Bangkok Thai in Foothill Village, but a lot is missing.... portions are smaller, food is very average, but worst of all is the very poor service, and a feeling that "nobody cared..." Maybe with the huge influx of Thai food in Salt Lake now, it is too difficult to find a good Thai chief now... heard rumors that owner, Dennis was not easy to work for and that may be the reason why the staff was not so concerned about the service offered... there are much better choices in Salt Lake City now.. very sorry to have an old favorite slip so much...

Pros: can not really think of any...

Cons: poor service, average food, not living up to previous reputation

Foods not bad - Service is terrible. Always understaffed, long waits dinning in or picking up. Owner is "too busy" to deal with customer when there's two groups in the restaurant.

When I first walked into this place, I was shocked to see that there was no hostess. I have been to bangkok thai 3 times and every single time i go, nobody is there to greet you and we end up waiting over 10 minutes to even get acknowledged. And this is when there are less than 4 tables in the whole restaurant. They really need to hire a hostess, instead of having the manager run around trying to seat people. I suggested this to the manager and he said they have problems with people calling in sick....not that this actually addressed my concerns. The server switched the level of spiciness in my and my boyfriend's dishes, mine ended up being extra spicy instead of medium, which prevented me from eating it comfortably. the server blamed this on the cook. The reason i keep coming back is because their food is truly delicious. I always get a curry dish and they are very flavorful, different spiciness, and have a variety of vegetables, which i like. the ambience is so-so. Mainly i think the food is commendable, which is why i am willing to put up with the awful service.

I was introduced to Bankok Thai by a friend when it opened after relocating. I had never tried Thai food before and was skeptical. Since then I have gone back at least once a week and have tried everything on the menu. I have yet to be disappointed. The staff is usually very prompt and friendly. My food has almost always been perfect and is fixed quickly if requested. Try the Panang Curry - my favorite.

Pros: Great food

Cons: None

Bangkok Thai Talay has amazing food. They get busy sometimes, which is a good thing. However the staff are always professional and very friendly. At their busiest, it is best to either go without time restraints, or wait for a less busy time. This is the only place I consistently get Thai food. Between the time the Foothill location closed and the new location opened, I tried many other places. I found one in Yuba City, CA that is pretty close. Now that Bangkok is open again, we go there at least 3-4 times a month, sometimes more. I like most everything on their menu. Though tastes vary, my favorites are: Red Curry with tofu, the coconut broth soup, tofu cakes in chu chee curry, the seared scallops and tuna, panang curry, evil prince, evil princess, and drunken noodles. Okay, there are probably more but these are excellent. I am not a thai iced tea fan, but my friends say theirs is excellent. If you are unsure of what to order, ask Ben or Dennis to give you a hand, they will be very happy to assist. Since they have reopened, I went back to one of the local places that was 'pretty good' because it is closer to me, and it was just not the same. Bangkok Thai is now and again the only place I go in SLC for Thai. p.s. they are so good, that even with gas as bad as it is I drive up from Sandy even if I have to get carryout.

Pros: food, friendly staff

Cons: very busy at times, but staff friendliness compensates in my opinion

I'm compelled to write because of some negative reviews. I liked the food and the service here and will go back.

Terrible service. I waited 45 minutes to simply get a glass of wine and the staff barely apologized. I'm normally very sympathetic towards overworked wait staff. The sad part was the restaurant was not understaffed just incompetent. The portions were small, the food bland and prices were high compared to other Thai Restaurant in the area. Go to Pawitt's or Bangkok Thai for a more authentic experience.

Pros: The Restraunt is close to Pawitts so its easy to drive past it for better Thai Food

Cons: Service, Price, Portions

As frequent (and always satisfied) diners at the former Bangkok Thai in Foothill Village, we were horribly disappointed with our visit to the "new" Bangkok Thai on Highland Drive. Beginning with the lack of a host/hostess to seat us when we arrived, and ending with our waiter messing up the bill and then asking us to "just adjust it yourselves and take it out of my tip", the experience was a train wreck from start to finish. Chicken satay appetizer arrived terribly undercooked and had to be sent back, only to be replaced with an equally-undercooked replacement. Tom Yum Goong was lukewarm because the sterno had burned out, and when we pointed it out to the manager, he apologized and then disappeared without doing anything about it. We ordered our Waterfall Steak "medium-well", but it arrived not quite medium-rare, and by then we had lost our appetites and had no desire to send it back and wait for a new dish. We just wanted to get out as quickly as possible. If only I could say the service and/or atmosphere compensated, but it was equally poor. Needless to say, we won't be going back, and judging by the fact that at least half of the tables were empty at 8:00 pm on this Friday evening, the restaurant itself may not be around much longer.

Pros: Panang Curry was tasty

Cons: Everything else

Food was good. Service was excellent in spite of the fact they needed more then the two servers who were working that night to handle the rush.
