I have to say, I did have a good time at this place, but that had more to do with being with friends and enjoying the drinks than anything about the place specifically or its staff. I guess the real lesson is that what it really takes to have a good time is the people you are with, not the venue.

I've never been here but it seems like a chill place. I'm just interested in the kareoke (and the alcohol of course) but it seems like an ok place to chill with my friends. I'm looking forward to it.

I've only been considered a "regular" at Burt's for about 2 years now, but there are definitely people who have been around since the dawn of time (ask about Ted). Even the bartenders, who have been working there forever, become patrons on their days off (any place where the employees are willing to stick around when they don't have to is okay with me). At Burt's the scene is as eclectic as the decor: Mondays/Tuesdays draw a DJ crowd, but occasionally host acoustic nights (like "unplugged" of SLC local band scene). Thursdays/Sundays feature karaoke with some of the secretly best (and worst!) singers in Utah. Wednesdays/Fridays/Saturdays you can find live music from local and out-of-state bands, ranging from punk, metal, rock, blues, rockabilly, and emo, to even reggae and Brazilian dance music. I swear I don't work there - I just love the place!
Pros: atmosphere, cheap drinks, bartenders
Cons: utah liquor laws

If you enjoy Shaggys, Gay Clubs, Dave Mathews, Hippies, stupid tribal band tattoos, crummy rap music, DJs, Techno or junked out import rice burners with coffee can mufflers then stay the hell away from this bar! Best bar in town, Cheap booze and Cheaper Women! Great music most of the time. If you dont like the bar, or you got out of punk 20 years ago, then make your way up to Shaggys where you can be the creepy 40 something guy oogling women 20 years younger than you.
Pros: cheap, great music, great broads
Cons: college night, trendy, mohawks

Perfect example of how you can talk a dozen of your friends into writing reviews, thus getting a "10" rating (ha!). Over time I've watched this place take a nose dive. I like small neighborhood bars, places with personality, and places with regulars. Unfortunately that's what this place USED to be. But, something has gone wrong. One is the losers spilling over from the tattoo parlor next door. The attitude is "ohh soooooo coooool." "Punk" is obviously the underlying vibe, but what's so funny is that most of the "punks" in here were in dipers when the true punk scene was happening in SLC. The tatoos, piercings, and attitude are a huge laugh for those of us who actually lived the punk scene of 20 years ago. Needless to say I no longer have any interest in spending my money here. A much better choice is "Shaggy's" a block north.
Pros: None
Cons: Size, Service, Clientle
