This is NOT Mexican food. I ordered two shredded beef tacos, a staple of Mexican food. I come from Phoenix, Arizona, where the Mexican food is awesome, so I know what to expect. What I expected was a fried corn tortilla filled with marinated shredded beef, lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese. What I got was like two giant Taco Bell gorditas - like a big pita (which reminded me of frybread) with un-marinated, flavorless meat, lettuce, and tomatoes. Tasted completely bland and the bread / tortilla was soggy before it even made it to the table. On top of this the prices were high and they charge for chips n salsa. The refried beans were very plain and tasted like they came out of a can. I could not palate this meal and ended up going down to Beto's immediately afterwards to get my fix. Don't go here expecting Mexican food.
Pros: The only pro was that it was right down the street from my apartment.
Cons: Everything else.

It's really not as bad as some claim it to be. Sure the atmosphere is a little "outdated", but the food is good. Those who claim it's too "greasy" are most likely ordering the smothered burritos full of cheese and sauces...naturally a greasy meal. I did not find their meals all that greasy, even after ordering their cheese enchiladas. However, mexican food is not exactly the healthiest and is more likely to be greasy considering their recipes. Comes with the territory. Their sauce is definitely a basic red enchilada sauce, not much flare, but for the price and the amount of food you get, who can complain? Their salsa is fairly good. Those who compare it to ketchup baffle me, since it's nothing of the sort. Being a Chef myself, I actually found their food to be rather good. It is no Red Iguana, however it still has it's perks and I find myself going there with friends at least every couple of months for some good, cheap, fast mexican food.
Pros: Good mexican, large portions, cheap price
Cons: Cheaper looking restaurant, blander taste

It is the greatest authentic Mexican Food in the Salt Lake Valley! I have read the previous reviews and someone mentioned that it was greasy and too much cheese. That's how I like it, the more the cheese and the grease it is the better. These poeple must be health freaks. La Puente is the best around. They have larger portions for the same price as La Frontera. A smothered burrito with cheese is priced at a nice low price which is under $5. Where else can you get a large portion with that kind of price. No where around here!
Pros: Smothered Burrito with Cheese, the service is fairly good, and the food is just fabulous.
Cons: On Friday's and Saturday nights it's jammed packed, which says that it's a good place.

If your looking for an expensive mamerican mexican dining experience, come here. Did not experience any authentic mexican flavors in any food. I got the chiecken soft taco. It was chicken, cheese, lettuce and a flour tortilla. I had to squirt the salsa on it out of the ketchup bottle. The ala carte menu is also cheaper than if you buy the meal. 2 enchilladas and rice is .15 cents cheaper when you buy ala carte. This place does not serve anything that like mexican food. Service is slow.

I am From Los Angeles. I was visiting my Boyriend in Salt Lake, and he suggested going to La Puente. The food was pretty good, and the atmosphere was cool. It was pretty good hangover food. I can't say it was the best. I am Mexican, and I know what authentic mexican food should taste like.
